Asako Arai, FluteAsako Arai is the flutist of the Mexico City Woodwind Quintet, La Camerata and other chamber music groups active in Mexico City where she resides since 1989. Her recordings with these groups are available on Dorian, Spartacus and Soundspells labels. As a soloist, she has appeared with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Emerson String Quartet, La Camerata, "Carlos Chávez" Symphony Orquesta and UNAM Philharmonic Orchestra, among others. She has given several world and Mexican premiers of contemporary flute repertory in international music festivals. Her articles have appeared in the Flutist Quarterly and Spectrum, a journal of the University of Hartford. Dr. Arai is professor of flute and chamber music at two of the music conservatories in Mexico City. She holds a DMA and MM from SUNY Stony Brook and BM from Hartt School of Music. Her professors have included Samuel Baron, John Wion, Timothy Wilson and Keith Underwood.
