Mexico City Woodwind Quintet is regarded as one of the most important chamber music groups in Mexico today. Its four compact discs, Dreams for One America, Pan American Images, Salsa para Vientos  and New Mexican Music are examples of the Quintet’s continued dedication to promote the composition and dissemination of contemporary works by Mexican and Latin American

composers, one of the objectives of the group. The list of works commissioned by and dedicated to the Quintet is growing, and incorporates the leading Mexican and Latin American composers of today.

 

The excellence of the Mexico City Woodwind Quintet has been acknowledged by the Mexican National Arts and Cultural Fund which awarded the group six grants between 1994 and 2012. The Quintet also received a grant from Mexico-USA Fund for Culture in 1999. Since 2013  the Quintet has been a recipient of the México en Escena grant given by the Mexican government through FONCA (National Fund for Culture and the Arts)

 

Not only has the Quintet presented the world premiers of works commissioned by the group, it has also performed the Mexican premiers of important contemporary quintet literature by prominent international composers as well as works by Latin Americans. As a regular participant in important music festivals such as the

International Cervantino Festival, the International New Music Forum and the Franco Donatoni International Contemporary Music Festival, as well as in

concerts sponsored by the Mexican Fine Arts Institute, the National Arts Council and the National University, the Mexico City Woodwind Quintet has gained critical

acclaim.

 

The Mexico City Woodwind Quintet has been a resident group at the National Arts Center and the Ollín Yoliztli Music School, reaffirming the abiding

commitment of the group to the education of the next generation of wind players. Through chamber music coachings, master classes as well as seminars on

special topics ranging from contemporary wind techniques to double reed

workshops, the members of the Mexico City Woodwind Quintet actively

participate in the training of young students.
